The Asia Wine Ratings has announced the results of its inaugural 2025 competition, awarding its top honor — Wine of the Year — to the 2024 Mewstone Pinot Noir from Australia’s Mewstone Wines.
Created to reflect the needs of Asia’s fast-evolving retail wine landscape, the Asia Wine Ratings evaluates wines on quality, value, and packaging appeal, aligning directly with how independent retailers, regional grocery groups, and supermarket category buyers make purchasing decisions.

In its first year, the competition drew global participation, spotlighting wines suited for Asia’s retail shelves and consumers. Among them, Mewstone Wines stood out for exceptional craftsmanship, modern Australian style, and clear commercial appeal for Asian markets.

Asia Wine Ratings was developed to support the region’s evolving wine retail space — where consumers are demanding higher quality, compelling packaging, and value that matches their expectations.

The 2025 judging panel featured leading wine retail and hospitality professionals from across Asia, including Benjamin Hasko MS MW (Master Sommelier & Master of Wine), Richard Hemming MW (Head of Wine, Asia at 67 Pall Mall), as well as prominent trade figures such as Tom Baxter (Asia Buyer at Berry Bros. & Rudd) and Sara Checchi (Director of Wine & Beverage at Rosewood Hong Kong).
The panel combined deep sommelier credentials with retail-buying expertise to ensure each awarded wine meets the needs of both shelf and consumer.

Each wine is blind-tasted and scored across quality, value, and packaging appeal, ensuring winners align with real retail-market performance standards.
