Born in Northern India, Kamal Malik's passion for wine began with his first wine tasting experience in 2002, an encounter that sparked a lifelong fascination with the complexity, craftsmanship, and culture of wine. What started as curiosity quickly evolved into a professional journey dedicated to mastering the art and science of beverage service.
Over the past two decades, Kamal has built an impressive career across hospitality, beverage management, and wine distribution. He has held senior roles including Bartender, Bar Manager, Head Sommelier, Restaurant Manager, and Beverage Manager with some of the world's most respected hospitality groups, including Hilton, Taj Hotels, and Oberoi Hotels & Resorts. These experiences provided him with a deep understanding of consumer preferences, wine service, food pairing, and beverage program management across diverse markets.
Today, Kamal serves with Maritime and Mercantile International (MMI), one of Asia's leading wine and spirits distribution companies and a subsidiary of the Emirates Group. His expertise spans wine, spirits, and sake, and he is widely recognized for his commitment to education, training, and elevating beverage standards across the industry.
Kamal made history as the first Indian to earn the prestigious Master Sommelier (MS) title, joining one of the most exclusive groups of wine professionals in the world. He also holds the WSET Diploma (DipWSET), further demonstrating his extensive knowledge of wines and beverage education.
With a unique perspective shaped by both India's emerging wine culture and his international experience across Asia and the Middle East, Kamal brings valuable insight into evolving consumer trends, market opportunities, and wine quality assessment. As a judge for Asia Wine Ratings, he contributes a highly informed and commercially relevant viewpoint, helping identify wines that resonate with today's consumers and trade professionals across Asia.
Passionate about mentoring the next generation of beverage professionals, Kamal continues to share his knowledge through training, education, and meaningful conversations about wine.
